Lately to my friends and I, Brooklyn has become the borough of choice for our Saturday nights. Last weekend, we decided to head over to Greenpoint and eat at Cafecito Bogota which is a Colombian restaurant. For me, arepas have become a favorite choice of food. Last month, I went to La Flor (and did a post on it here), another restaurant known for it's arepas which is located in Queens. If you have never had them, it is worth a try. Here are some of the dishes my friends and I had:
To start, we ordered empanadas, stuffed yuca and a stuffed potato for the table with refreshing mango juice.
From left to right: empanada, stuffed potato, stuffed yuca (if you don't know, yuca is almost like a potato with a completely different look and taste; very popular in Latin America).
Arepa #1: Cartegena: Arepa topped with scrambled eggs, shrimp, cilantro & scallion.
AS one can see, it was delicious...
Arepa #2: The Bogotá: Arepa topped with marinated chicken, corn and scallion in a tomato sauce.
Arepa #3: The llanera: Beef and onion with a final touch of avocados.
With the llanera, my friend, Tamara also had an order of sweet plantains.
Arepa #4: This was my arepa; shrimp, with bits of plantain with tomato. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!
Overall, excellent food, quiet ambience and attentive service. Looking forward to returning to Cafecito Bogata, which will not require much convincing amongst my friends.
Now, if you had to choose, which arepa would be your choice?
