The different faces of Brazil

Reflecting on my time in Rio and Brasilia, one thing really stood out to me. The people. The physical diversity of the people, from skin color to hair texture, was truly beautiful. I was amazed to see so many people who looked so different from each other be from the same nation. In certain places in the US, like NYC, one can also see this. Yet, the difference is that in Brazil, everyone has some type of mixture in their ancestry no matter what color of skin they have today. One brazilian friend said that though she has light skin and blonde hair, her grandmother had a much darker complexion . She said, “Everyone gets along here. Skin color is not an issue. We all come from the same background: mixed.” And, I think that is beautiful :)

  2. beautiful indeed. If only the same love of diversity applied to everywhere else in the world, instead of resentment and mistrust. It seems quite effortless and natural in Brazil! :)

  5. Hello Senorita, thank you for stopping by Vetsy's View.

I totally agree with you and Limbo. Brazil has a special class of people who respect and get a long with other races, which is always a beautiful thing.

I happen to have a respect for everyone, regardless of back ground or color. God made us all beautiful and unique.

  31. That's what I love about Brazil. You can't put them into one pot. Everyone's different. Love it. I have friends from there that have natural blond hair, blue eyes and fair skin, and the next friend looks so dark with his skin and hair color it's super funny. And, they both come from the same city etc etc. Just so very interesting. Not to mention that these are the friendliest people ever. :)

I agree it was lovely to see the 'many faces of Brazil' and it would be wonderful if diversity was celebrated and not treated as something to be feared...
