When I think back to all the places I have had the opportunity to visit, I can not deny that I have been blessed. It was interesting to me to see places that were different from my life in New York. Yet, people’s perception of where I am from has always been interesting. Notice, I wrote New York, not New York City. But I am sure that most people when they hear or see New York, they associate it with the city. For me, it’s fine because though I grew up right outside the city, I was born in Manhattan and my family and I pretty much went into the city every week. For those who don’t live near NYC like in towns/cities such as Syracuse, Buffalo, or Albany (which is the capital of our state), New York is definitely not NYC for them.
For example, this weekend I was away doing some volunteer work at a place called Eddy Farms which is in (this is why I have not posted in a while). It is located on the New York and Delaware border in Port Jervis, NY. If you look below at the photos, you can see what else is New York. And when I say New York, I mean the state, not the city.
What do you think when you hear New York?
Do you know or have you been anywhere in the state of New York that is not New York City?
Can’t wait to hear from you all :)

nice photos!
ReplyDeleteLook at those gorgeous rolling hills! Definitely is not what I think of when I think New York! The only place I've been other than NYC is Buffalo and we Canadians only go there for 3 things: (1) hockey; (2) airport; or (3) outlet shopping :-)

This is so true! Ive driven through NY state to Buffalo and Niagara and I was just constantly reminded of how much more there is to New York than New York City!
ReplyDeleteMy visit definitely encouraged me to believe that sometimes to really see a place you need to take a closer look...
I think of the city when I hear New York. But I've been to Binghamton, NY before because my aunt used to live in Vestal, which is near there. And I've been to the Spidie Fest in Binghamton a few times.
ReplyDeleteamazing shots!

@ Anna: Well said!! You are one of the fortunate ones who had the opportunity to venture outside the city and see what else there is within the state of New York :)
ReplyDelete@ Nicole: I've been to Binghamton and Vestal because my cousins went to school out there. Still need to make it to a Spiedie Festival ;)
@ Mac-and-Me: Thanks for your comment :)
Lovely pictures. I must admit the first thing I think of when I hear New York is CSI:New York and Mac Taylor! I love all 3 CSI's!!
ReplyDeleteFor outsiders, NY means city - Tall building, down town, fun, shows, movies, shopping, metros...not country...
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures.
