Candelaria

“Hola” everyone ;) Hope you are enjoying your day...

Well, I have some photos here to share with you from my trip to Spain in the Canary Islands. Now, just to give a little background, the Canary Islands is located off the coast of Africa near Morocco and consists of seven islands. I was fortunate enough to visit three islands while I was there. My friend Keka lives in Tenerife with her family which is where I flew to when I arrived. For the first two days, I spent it with her just getting to know her friends and her life in Tenerife which I truly enjoyed

On the third day, her and her family and I took a boat from Tenerife to La Palma to visit the rest of her family. Keka surprised me with this trip to La Palma and bought my ticket for me (I know, she is amazing ;) ....

Well, due to a storm, our flight was canceled and in the end we decided to go there by boat. On our way to the boat, we stopped by a town called Candelaria. Here are the pics from that town.

This photo is from when we first arrived. We stopped first for a 'barraquito' which is a typical cup of coffee from the islands. It's basically coffee with condensed milk in it (photo will come in later post).

As you can see, Candelaria is right on the water.

As you can see, the waters were rough...

After our coffee, we walked towards the Basilica of Candelaria (can you see it in the distance?).

Here is the Basilica which is dedicated to the Virgin of Candelaria.

This is the plaza in front of the Basilica.

These statues are of the Guanches who were the aboriginal inhabitants of the islands.

This is the dome within the basilica.

This is la Virgin de Candelaria, which is depicted as a black Madonna also known as La Morenita

This a mural outside the basilica celebrating the Virgin of Candelaria. Kind of liked the pointillism effect around it.

So, this is just the start of my photos; more are on their way. Looking forward to your comments ;)

Hasta Pronto...

  73. Lovely!

I've only been to parts of Gran Canaria (Las Palmas) and Tenerife and since it was for a conference I didn't get to do much visiting. I did grab a chance to go scuba diving and I can tell you the panorama underwater is just as impressive as above!

You crossed by boat? See any whales? There are plenty in the waters around there! Particularly the pilot whales, also lots of dolphins and occasionally sperm whales...
