One of my favorite things about New York are the museums. Growing up here, it's easy to not appreciate the museums as a kid. School trips to the Natural History museum or the Cloisters is the norm when you grow up surrounded by so much culture. I have to admit, back then, museums were not favorite thing.
But now that I am all grown up, going to museums is one of my favorite things to do in the city. And, my favorite museum, without a doubt, is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. My cousin was visiting from out of town for a weekend and one of our stops was visiting the MET.
We started off with the American Wing. The stain glass windows were enchanting... If you stare at it long enough in the museum, it feels like the water is actually moving.
A nameless observer....
Who remembers "When Harry Met Sally"? One of the scenes was shot here near the Temple of Dendur. This room was packed with people and it was impossible to get a shot without people. This is probably the most popular exhibit in the museum.
Below is a mixture of some of our favorite classics...
and moderns...
That's my friend Kevin in the reflection... Can you see him?
That's me in the blue and white taking this shot ;)
Hope you enjoyed my short and sweet tour...
Are you an art aficionado? What type of art do you appreciate?
I would love to peruse the Met. I need to go by New York City sometime and make this happen. What gorgeous shots of a few of the exhibits. It's interesting that the Egyptian exhibit was so popular. I wonder why that is?
ReplyDeleteI just saw you blog and it looks really cool! :) I am considering living in New York, so this is really cool for me :)

ReplyDeleteI love museums. Too bad not many museums here in Kuantan. Duncan took me to The New Walk Museum in Leicester city, England. It's a dinosaur museum. Awesome! Your pictures are great! Didn't know that we can take pictures in a museum.

ReplyDeleteI'd love to visit the museums and galleries in NY! I was there in 2004 but I hadn't much time to check out those!
Have a relaxing Sunday and thanks for the lovely comment!
Those are some beautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteThe museums are probably one of the biggest reasons I want to visit NYC, although my first stop would be the Natural History Museum (I've loved those since a kid, and I grew up to be a biologist so...). I hope to be able to hop over there some day and give the city and its museums the attention they deserve!
It's great that you appreciate them, all too often most people don't seem to appreciate what they have in their own back yard!
cheers!
PS: I clicked in from your link on "What's Hot", the title of your blog intrigued me ;o)

ReplyDelete@ CrazyCris: Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out all of my posts!! Just from your blog and your comments, I can see we have a lot in common. The Natural History does sound like your type of place if your interest is in Marine Biology. Thanks again for stopping by and I will see you around here again ;)

Oh, what a wonderful place to be! I am from Los Angeles, and took for granted all of the wonderful museums there. I visited them often and enjoyed them, but was completely shocked when I moved away and realized what I had lost! Enjoy.

You've picked some wonderful pieces to photograph! I've always been a bit of a museum junkie. I can't remember ever taking a vacation that didn't involve museums and wandering around old buildings. You're lucky to have such amazing museums at your disposal!
ReplyDelete@ Ariana: Thanks for your comment :) Hopefully, you will get to opportunities to do some site seeing when you visit LA again :)
